The ‘Will we reach 1 Million Caches’ Contest

The First official GCGC contest

As of the writing of this article, there are currently 867,623 active caches worldwide. Take a guess at how many official geocaches will be active by the end of 2009, as listed on the geocaching.com website, to see if you are either lucky or skilled, and WIN!!! There will a prize for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd closest guesses (over or under).

Competition Rules:

• An entry ticket cost of $1.00 is required for EACH submitted guess. (see below for payment details)
• There is no limit to the number of guesses you can submit.
• The contest is open to all REGISTERED members of the GCGC website, including the board members with the exception of Harwell5 who has voluntarily withdrawn due to handling of the entries.
• Payments for guesses must be received or postmarked no later than Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:59:59pm and guesses must be made within one (1) week of payment submittal. Guesses not received within that time frame will forfeit the entry cost.
• Guesses will be requested and confidentially submitted by email after verification of receipt of entry fee. DO NOT ENTER A GUESS ON THIS THREAD! IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
• If two or more members pick the same number and that number wins, the first submitted guess will win 1st prize, next wins 2nd prize, etc.
• Guesses can NOT be changed once submitted.
• Prizes are determined by the board and will be listed below.
• The active caches listed on the geocaching.com home page will be taken on December 31, 2009 at 11:59:59pm and will be used to determine the final total of published caches for the contest.
• All rules are subject to addition or change by the board if necessary.

How to Enter:

• Use this contest page to indicate that you are going to participate and how many entries you would like to make, then,
• To pay by cash or check, send an email to treasurer@charlottegeocaching.com for directions on where to send payment.
• To pay through Paypal(R), send your payment to treasurer@charlottegeocaching.com by clicking on this link, then select the "Personal" tab and list the payment as "Payment Owed". This way, there is no charge to you for making the payment. **UPDATE: Changed from Newsletter**

Note: All monies received from this contest will be used by the GCGC to cover the purchase of prizes. All remaining monies will be used for future GCGC sponsored events.

Prizes:
You can't beat these three great prizes for only $1 entry into this contest. 1st, 2nd and 3rd closest entries of guesses to the exact number of active caches listed on the geocaching.com website by the end of this year will win. The prizes are listed below in no particular order. When the result of the contest are determined, the winner will get to choose his/her prize first, with the first runner up picking second and the remaining prize will be given to the third place winner.

FYI - I will be abstaining from the competition due to the fact that I will be collecting the "secret" guesses and will know all the submittals for the contest. It's only fair that I don't compete.
