Thanks ROC and FApp. Not too much caching being done on my part lately, but thank you for the birthday wishes. Don't plan on dying anytime soon either. I still got a few good years left in me. :D

Of course you are and you always will be, but tell her she is actually getting older faster than you. If you do the math, percentage wise, she is fast approaching your age and it gets faster evey year. Check the percentage! :D

Oh yeah, Happy Milestone. I still got a little over a year left to reach that one. =)) (but I'm catching up fast)

I just ordered my 2010 coin. Are we doing this again for 2011?

Thanks for mentioning that here. I didn't receive a paypal notification saying we had received an order. Went to the paypal page and sure enough there you are. :D Your coin is already packed and will ship out today.

General Discussion / Help a Geocacher WIN!
« on: February 22, 2011, 11:55:32 am »
Hey guys, I got this in an email from honechile, a geocacher in the eastern part of NC. Let's help her out like you helped me win the Garmin Chirp. All you have to do is go to the link and vote for her (#56). I have already checked it out and it is legit.

Below is her email to me. I just voted and she was tied for first place. My vote put her one up. Now it's your turn. Let's help this Geocacher WIN!!! I have to add that her video's are cool. She can really hula hoop. :D

Greetings!  This is Vicky (honeychile) writing.  I'm a long time NC geocacher looking for some help from geocaching friends.  If off-topic posts are permitted on your local geocaching website, would you please pass the following along to your group?

I've been chosen to compete in a pool of 60 people across the country in a health & fitness challenge.  The contest is based 50% on weight loss; 25% on social networking (blogs, videos), and 25% on voting from friends.  It is sponsored by Genghis Grill (mongolian stir-fry restaurant) in conjunction with Medical City Hospital in Dallas, TX.  Genghis Grill has been working with the hospital for 4 years to develop heart-healthy meals.  Part of the benefits (at least to me) of being chosen for the 90-day contest is that I get four complete physicals, including labs.  As a diabetic without health insurance, this is a great blessing all by itself.  I also get to (have to) eat free at the restaurant once a day, another great benefit of participating.

You can vote by going to:  http://tinyurl.com/vote4vicky  Fill in the required info, scroll down to the bottom of the list to me, #56, Vicky Hallenbeck, Winston-Salem, toggle the button beside my name, and don't forget to hit "submit" -- THANK YOU  This is a one-shot thing and it's one-vote-per-computer as they check IP address. If there are two in the home who'd like to vote (bless your hearts), then you'll have to use a work computer, cell phone, or other device with a different IP address.

On the next rainy day when you're stuck at home, I invite you to check out my videos. They will probably tell you more than you ever wanted to know about me as I'm making one every day in conjunction with the contest. They are brief (under 3 minutes) and I tried to make them entertaining.  Here's one of me & my hula hoop: http://tinyurl.com/healthkwest9 (many of the videos feature me hula hooping as that's what I do for exercise).  This one is about finding a geocache: http://tinyurl.com/healthkwest3 (no, my voice isn't normally that sultry - I'm battling a cold :)  There are others here: http://tinyurl.com/healthkwestvids  Finally, I'm blogging at http://tinyurl.com/healthkwest  This contest is a job!

If you are trying to vote from your smart phone or iPad and encounter difficulty, please go to http://bit.ly/honeychile-kwest which is a way to go directly to the information in a frame on the Genghis Grill site without the company/website header.

Please feel free to pass this information along to others you think might be interested in supporting and rooting for me.

Thank you so much for your consideration and happy geocaching!

Vicky (honeychile)

We've been discussing this same issue among the admins and mods and are trying to figure out the cause and correct it. Hang in there.

Not trying to toot my own horn, but I was (tooting) on the GeoCraze pod(toot)cast yesterday and it was a great (toot) interview. The (toot) links are added to the original (toot) post above if anyone would like to (tooten') listen.

* No horns were injured during the typing of this post. All toots placed intentionally.

General Discussion / Re: New use for GPS on Android
« on: January 21, 2011, 03:28:09 pm »
I was getting excited because that sounded like a real fun possibility. The project must be dead though because I went to the wifiarmy website and it redirected to a google page asking if you wanted to buy the domain name.

Cool concept though. I probably would have played.

General Discussion / Re: Crowders Mountain State Park Hike
« on: December 31, 2010, 09:40:31 am »
Been up to Kings Pinnacle a time or two and that is a great hike. Our scout troop has hiked it for merit badge requirements a few times.

There are several caches very nearby (outside) the park and there is actually an Earthcache in the park at the Nature Center. After the hike, I suggest going into the center and seeing the exhibits. You can complete "Crowder's Mountain Earthcache" (GC15XHH) while inside.

Do you have a date/time for the hike yet? That would be helpful here on the site. For other information, everyone can call the number posted.
